| For those
who are
new to the 'net, here is a brief explanation of how you can establish
your
presence on the world wide web.
Domain: A domain is basically a name that you have registered. It is uniquely yours. An example is the name "WebMavin.com" or "OxygenStore.net" both of which are registered to Claudia Montelione. If you have your own domain, you also need to have a hosting company (see below). Website: A website is what people see when they go to your web address. It's your home on the internet. The web address can be a domain name or it can be any name you make up for space on someone else's domain. It is created as a file (one page) or many files (many pages) on a computer and then published or uploaded to the host server (computer) which will make it available for viewing on the internet. Many domains offer free web space in exchange for running their banner or advertising on your site. If you are a WebMavin client, you can have free webspace and your address would look like this: http://www.webmavin.com/spector, where "spector" would be your space. It's a good way to start out if you're not yet ready to jump in to getting a domain name and web hosting. Hosting: The web
host has
powerful computers called "servers". They have
the
capability of storing your website files and making them available for
viewing by large amounts of people simultaneously around the clock, 7
days
a week. In dealing with a hosting company, good service is
critical
as an unreliable host can cost you in aggravation, frustration and
possibly
loss of business.
Whole Site & Single Page Creation
|
Here's what you can expect: Based upon the initial discussion of your site, a few background and design elements will be presented for your approval. Once you've decided, the site/page will be constructed and again submitted for your approval. Generally, the proposed design is attached to this website for viewing purposes (e.g., www.webmavin.com/yourname) until it is ready for the general public's eyes.
